Day Two!

We finally made it to Europe! It felt so good when we finally landed and stretched our cramped legs. We walked through the airport to the subway to figure out how to buy our tickets. In Germany they don't have any ticket counters where you can talk to someone, its all on your honor. Well we had no idea what ticket we should buy or where we were going. So Art and I stood at the machine for a good 30 minutes reading the maps and directions in our Rick Steve's book. With serious exhaustion setting in Art became frustrated as to which ticket to buy. I knew we probably weren't going to figure it out on our own so I prayed for God's help. Sure enough a man walked up to us with a ticket for an all day pass for two adults for the subway that he didn't need anymore. We thankfully accepted and thanked God for providing just what we needed. We found time again that the German people were the most friendly and helpful of anywhere we went.
After we got our ticket situation figured out we took the subway into town, it was about a 45 minute ride. We got off at the main train station/downtown stop. We walked outside into the freezing cold air. That was something I didn't expect was snow! We decided to go drop off our bags at our hotel and see what clothes we could find to layer up with. We talked to the lady at the hotel, Stephanie who was very kind and spoke English very well. She must have understood how tired we were because she told us to come back at 9:00 am and our room would be ready. Those were the words I was hoping to hear! This would give us enough time for a quick breakfast and a little exploring around the beautiful city of Munich.

We ditched our stuff and went to go find breakfast. We had potatoes, eggs and sausage on our minds. As we began to walk around we quickly realized that there wasn't any breakfast restaurants anywhere downtown. The longer we walked the hungrier we got so we gave up and went into a small cafe type place that sold felafels. At that point we didn't care what we were eating. Who would have thought that we would fly half way across the world and our first meal would be a felafels in Germany! We did get odd glances through the window from the people walking by, but we didn't care and scarfed down our weird breakfast and were off for some exploring. We found a cute department store that was warm and open (it was 8 am by this point). Something we discovered in Europe is stores don't keep early hours, most things we found open at 10:00 am or later. So in we went to the open C & A store to look at all the cute clothes. I wanted to buy up a bunch of cute shirts but we only had our backpacks and I knew the more I bought the more I would have to haul around the rest of our three weeks. So I only browsed. I did decide that if I found a hat or a scarf that I would buy it so I could stay warm. That's another thing we found that Germans don't do is hats, even if it freezing outside no one had a practical scarf or hat on. So no luck finding anything to keep us warm. We did a little downtown site seeing and then it was finally time to go back to our hotel to check in. We decided that we were going to take a quick nap and be on our way to find fun stuff to do today. We laid down and set the alarm.

Art and I made the classic travel mistake of sleeping on our regular schedule instead of making ourselves stay up. So when we woke up 8.5 hours later we were both shocked! We had slept the whole day away!

We took a shower and realized it was time for dinner. We decided to go to Hafbrauhaus or affectionately known as HB and eat brats and drink beer. We took the subway, we were pros at this point, and walked through the dark streets. Germany is beautiful, I loved seeing all of the Bavarian architecture everywhere. We found HB and sat down overwhelmed at all of the people, the music and singing! We found a spot near the band and I ordered what I knew, brats of course. Art went bold and picked something with the word original in it. Out came our beer, it was bigger then our heads!

Next came our meal and mine was just what I was hoping for, Art on the other had got a sandwich with three types of baloney! Not what he was hoping for! Poor guy, so I shared with him some of mine. At the end of every other song the band would play a song and everyone would sing allegiance to the queen. We had so much fun. We stayed long into the night meeting people from all of the world. Our favorite were to Aussies that were there on business. They shared all of their favorite German tips and places to visit. They also invited us to come down and visit them. We had a lot of fun together!

I couldn't drink my beer as fast as Art could, there was just so much!

Yea for brats and beer! I'm loving seeing you hold a beer bigger than your head!
